Kornai Honored by French President János Kornai, Allie S. Freed Professor of Economics and fellow at the Institute of Advanced Study at Collegium Budapest, recently received the "Officier dans l'Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur" from the President of the French Republic. Kornai was decorated at the French Embassy in Budapest. Annie G. Rogers Awarded Fulbright Annie G. Rogers, associate professor of education at the Graduate School of Education, has been awarded a Fulbright grant in psychology for this academic year. She will travel to Ireland on the grant. In collaboration with clinical and developmental psychologists at Trinity College Dublin, Rogers will test, evaluate, and modify a methodological pilot study of her relational method for evaluating children with histories of sexual abuse and trauma. Schreiner Awarded Prize for Chamber Music Composition Martin Schreiner, head of the Morse Music Library in Hilles Library, won a prize for his woodwind trio composition, Anatomy and Variations of the Sirens' Song. His piece was entered in the 1997 International Chamber Music Competition, sponsored by the New England Reed Trio. Schreiner's composition is scheduled for publication with Frank E. Warren Music later this year. Microbiologists Harrison, Walsh win fellowships The American Academy of Microbiology has elected Stephen C. Harrison, professor of biochemistry and molecular biology, and Christopher T. Walsh, Hamilton Kuhn Professor of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology, as fellows. Fellows are selected based on demonstrated scientific excellence, originality, and leadership; high ethical standards; and scholarly and creative achievement. The mission of the Academy is to recognize scientists for distinguished achievements in microbiology and provide expertise in the service of science and the public. Earthwatch Honors Wilson, Gould As part of the Earthwatch Institute's Festival of Science and Culture held at the Science Center on Saturday, Edward O. Wilson, Pellegrino University Professor Emeritus, and Stephen Jay Gould, Alexander Agassiz Professor of Zoology, were honored with the first Annual Global Citizenship Awards for their contributions to humankind as scientists and educators.
