Junior named Miss Massachusetts

Elizabeth Hancock '00 of Lowell House was named Miss Massachusetts last weekend at a competition among 16 others held in Fall River. Jenni McKinney of the Divinity School also competed.

Hancock will compete in the Miss America contest in Atlantic City on Sept. 19.

Three of the past five Miss Massachusetts winners have been Harvard students.

Investment Information Fair to be held for faculty, staff

All faculty and staff are invited to the 1998 Investment Information Fair for the Tax Deferred Annuity Program (TDA) and the Harvard Retirement Plans:

* Medical Area: Monday, June 22, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Vanderbilt Hall

* Cambridge: Tuesday, June 23, 9 a.m-6 p.m., Gutman Conference Center (corner of Brattle Street and Appian Way)

The Investment Fairs will feature discussions about the fundamentals of investing and the investment options available to faculty and staff through the Retirement Plans and TDA.

Workshops will be led by representatives from TIAA-CREF, Fidelity Investments, Scudder, and the Vanguard Group. Faculty and staff can meet with retirement company representatives, financial planners, and Harvard representatives to ask questions concerning TDA and the Retirement Plan. Photos celebrating 20 years of Commencement on display at Coop

Photographer Jim Harrison, a Harvard Magazine contributing editor, unveiled a photographic exhibit last week celebrating 20 years of Harvard Commencements.

The photo subjects include elated graduates, proud parents, and nostalgic reunioners. Jointly sponsored by the Harvard Coop and Harvard Magazine, the photos will be on display at the Coop through June 15.

National Childhood Depression Center Launched at Judge Baker Children's Center

Judge Baker Children's Center, an affiliate of the Medical School, has established a National Childhood Depression Research Center (NCDRC), funded by $750,000 distributed from the estate of Josephine H. Klein.

Stuart Hauser, president of Judge Baker Children's Center, said the NCDRC would "promote major new collaborations among a number of childhood depression research projects . . . and stimulate new depression research initiatives that could well have an impact throughout the nation" as well as "promote new and ongoing research that can significantly contribute to our understanding the etiology, early identification, treatment and prevention of childhood depression."
