Web peek into GSE

October 2: "S. picks up things more quickly than almost anyone in the class. I told her there were no limits to what she could do if she came to class every day. Not a very good way for me to engage her. She got very defensive."

- Alan, student teacher in a Boston high school

Today (Nov. 1), the Graduate School of Education (GSE) launches a new Web site that charts the daily struggles, joys, and revelations of the newest generation of teachers. "Teacher Journal: In School With Educators" (http://www.gse.harvard.edu/nv/teacherjournals) showcases journal entries from four students from the GSE's Teacher Education Program. Alan, Stephen, Michelle, and Katherine (not their real names) will update their journals monthly on the site, painting a realistic picture of four teachers' experiences in urban Boston-area schools.

As the Teacher Education Program, back under the direction of founder Katherine Merseth, lecturer on education, this year, rethinks and retools its approach to training tomorrow's teachers for the challenges of urban education, "Teacher Journal" provides a glimpse into the lives, minds, and classrooms of young teachers and their students.
