A bigger, better Springfest is ahead

Springfest, the traditional seasonal party and concert put on by the Undergraduate Council (UC), is, this year, going to break a bit from tradition. The event is still the undergraduate be-there-or-be-square to-do of the season, but this time it has a co-sponsor - President Lawrence H. Summers. Summers wants to take advantage of a golden opportunity to get better acquainted with the undergraduate population through his participation in the April affair.

The community-building party will be bigger and better this spring with a big-name band, tasty, substantial offerings of picnicky food for hungry party-goers, and carnival rides for adults and kids - all for free. In addition to students, this year's event is opening up to faculty, staff, and their families.

Jessica Stannard-Friel '04, co-chair of the UC's Campus Life Committee, said, "I'm really excited by the scale of Springfest this year. We've been able to augment every area of the event. I think this event will be a great way for the undergraduates and larger community to celebrate the end of the spring semester and the enjoy the beginning of the summer season."

The celebration commences at noon on Saturday, April 27, rain or shine, on the MAC Quad. All members of the College community with a valid Harvard ID are welcome. Music will include the student bands Diaco, Invisible Downtown, and Un Pocito Mas, and headliner The Verve Pipe.

Summers commented, "I'm delighted to be working with the HUC to help make Springfest an event that will be enjoyed by the entire College undergraduate and graduate community. It's a chance for students, faculty, staff, and their families to come together and have a great time."
