Title IX discussion at HBS
The Department of Athletics will hold the final installment of its four-part discussion series celebrating the sesquicentennial anniversary of intercollegiate athletics on Friday (May 9). The two-hour session, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Spangler Auditorium beginning at 3:30 p.m. and will feature a distinguished panel discussing the goals and realities of Title IX. Harvard Business School (HBS) Professor Stephen Greyser will moderate the session.
Radcliffe heavies down BU, M.I.T.
Radcliffe's varsity heavyweight crew bested Boston University by one-and-a-half lengths this past Saturday (May 3) on the Charles to hand the Black and White its eighth victory over the Terriers in the past nine seasons. Clocking in at 6:35.8, the Black and White also downed M.I.T., which finished with a time of 7:46.3. With the win, Radcliffe - ranked fifth nationally and second in the East - retains the Allen-DeWolfe Trophy, while improving its spring record to 9-1.The heavies return to action this Saturday (May 10) on the Charles when Radcliffe faces Northeastern for the Rowlands Cup in its final dual race of the spring. The Black and White has defeated Northeastern four straight years and leads the all-time series with the Huskies, 15-4. The Eastern Sprints are set for May 18, in Camden, N.J., where Radcliffe is looking to row strong and gain a sixth straight team bid to the NCAA Championships, slated for May 29-31 in Indianapolis.
Rugby rocks it for second-place showing
The No. 15-seeded Harvard rugby club team dropped a 45-37 decision to Air Force this past Sunday (May 4) in the finals of the Division I Collegiate National Championships at Stanford. Prior to Sunday's defeat, the Harvard underdogs had dismissed both No. 2 Utah and Penn State, before edging Army, 27-26, in the final four. The No. 2 finish marks the team's best finish ever on the national stage.
