Tanglewood Marionettes come to Sackler

Enjoy free performance ... no strings attached

Harvard University Art Museums will host the Tanglewood Marionettes as part of its upcoming Sackler Saturday event on March 12. The performance, titled "Perseus and Medusa - A Tale From Ancient Greece," tells the classic Greek myth of Perseus and his quest to defeat the snaky-haired Gorgon Medusa. The show begins at 11:30 a.m., and is included free as part of Sackler Saturday, though tickets are required.

A featured troupe at the 2001 Puppeteers of America National Festival in Florida, and a past recipient of an excellence award from the Union Internationale de la Marionnette, Tanglewood Marionettes has been touring throughout New England and the United States since 1993. To bring "Perseus and Medusa" to life, Tanglewood Marionettes will make use of 36-inch-tall handcrafted marionettes, 16 feet of stage, and 50 yards of innovative scrolling scenery.

Free tickets will be handed out at the museum on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the performance beginning at 10 a.m. This Sackler Saturday is themed "Stories in Art," and runs until 1 p.m. A free program for families with children (ages 6-11), Sackler Saturdays are always free and open to the public. For more information, call (617) 495-4402.
