Keating named Freedom to Discover winner
Professor of Cell Biology and Pediatrics Mark T. Keating has been selected to receive the 15th annual Bristol-Myers Squibb Freedom to Discover Award for Distinguished Achievement in Cardiovascular Research for his discovery of genes involved in cardiac arrhythmias. Mutations in these genes can lead to abnormal heart rhythms, a major cause of death and disability. Keating's studies have greatly advanced the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of arrhythmias, as well as the understanding of cardiovascular physiology. The award, a $50,000 cash prize and a silver commemorative medallion, will be officially presented to Keating at the annual Bristol-Myers Squibb Distinguished Achievement Awards Dinner to be held in New York City in October.
